- It helps to restore calm for all involved.
- It creates space between the child and the trigger for the undesirable behaviour.
Disadvantages:
- It's tempting to misuse time out as a way to get a break from a troublesome child.
- If it is overused, time out loses its effectiveness.
- Children may resist compliance until they understand how time out works. Adults need to be consistent with rule enforcement to help the children learn.
